Users menu – WordPress tutorial

users menu

If you think one website can be created by only one person then your thinking is wrong. Users menu in WordPress enables the multiple users facility, so that many persons can update your website and this is totally up-to you to select the appropriate person.

This facility is useful if you have no time for blogging. You can assign a person and tell to create post for you.

Now you might think “If I assign a person and he deleted my all the post then?”

WordPress gives this facility also. You can give restriction by assigning job role.

what are these jobs role?

  • Administrator: No limits.
  • Editor: Has access to all posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and links.
  • Author: can write, upload photos to, edit, and publish their own posts.
  • Contributor: has no publishing or uploading capability, but can write and edit their own posts until they are published.
  • subscriber: can read and comment on posts and pages.

Administrator:
He can do everything. He has full power over the site. He can assign job role of others.
If you assign this role to anybody then he might downgrade your job role. I recommend don’t make anybody Administrator, because administrator can delete entire website also.

Editor:
An Editor can create, edit, publish, and delete any post or page, as well as moderate comments and manage categories, tags, and links. I again recommend don’t make anybody Editor since he can delete others post also.

Author:
An Author can create, edit, publish, and delete only their own posts, as well as upload files and images. Authors do not have access to create, modify, or delete pages, nor can they modify posts by other users.
You should assign this role to most trusted person. If you assign this role to anybody then he can post abuse content also.

Contributor:
A Contributor can create and edit only their own posts, but cannot publish them. When one of their posts is ready to be published, it will need to be submitted to an Administrator for review first. Furthermore, once a Contributor’s post is approved and published by an Administrator, it can no longer be edited by the Contributor. Contributors do not have the ability to upload files or images, but they can see your site’s stats. Safe to assign this job to anybody.

Subscriber:
A subscriber can read and comment on posts and pages. subscriber will get notification in their email if any post is created.
