what are WordPress plugins in WordPress dashboard?
Plugin is collection of one or multiple files which specially designed to work on WordPress. WordPress plugins are stored in wp-content/plugins directory. Every files under this plugin will be scanned by WordPress to determine if the file is a properly formatted WordPress plugin.
If the file is determined to be a plugin, it appears under the Dashboard–>Plugins –> Installed Plugins and ready to be activated.

After installing plugin you will see options activate , edit , delete (see Akismet in above image).
After click on activate, you will see options deactivate, edit, settings(see Jetpack, Google analytics plugin in above image).
You can not delete any activated plugin , you must inactive it first.
To add new plugin go dashboard –> plugins –> add new.
The following page appears.
You can search plugin in text box for example Facebook like box, SEO by yoast etc. And then click on search plugin button, you will get all related results and you can select appropriate plugin and install it.
If you have plugin downloaded in your computer then click on upload and you can upload the plugin.
Add new Plugins page also provides list of featured, popular and newest plugins.
